The Committee for the American Papal Tiara was formed by a group of American laity to present His Holiness Pope Leo XIV a Triregnum. Also known as the "Papal Tiara," the Triregnum has been an important symbol of the Roman Pontiff since the 8th Century. As the Holy Father was born in America, it was thought that a gift from the American People at the outset of his pontificate would be fitting, especially in light of the fast-approaching 250th Anniversary of the Founding of the United States.
To that end, the Committee has formed to raise funds to commission an American firm and iterate this ancient religious symbol. Although the Popes ceased publicly wearing the Triregnum following the Second Vatican Council, every post-conciliar Pope has received at least one as a gift, and it remains a symbol constantly used to represent the Holy See. Unused funds will go to Peter's Pence.
